Many industrial, protective, and safety products are textile-based—and for good reason. Textiles offer the perfect combination of flexibility and durability while supporting a range of specialized features such as flame resistance, high visibility, tensile strength, insulation, and more.
At LJ Design & Manufacturing, we collaborate closely with our customers to define critical specifications and recommend the right materials for the job. Our engineering team ensures every solution meets, and often exceeds, performance expectations. When safety is on the line, durability, quality, and reliability are non-negotiable.
Applications
- Insulating Covers & Heater Jackets: Maintain consistent temperatures or prevent freezing of vital equipment with insulated textile solutions.
- High-Visibility Gear: Increase worker safety through strategic use of high-visibility materials in sewn industrial products.
- Safety Straps: Heavy-duty straps designed to secure equipment, or safeguard workers, where strength and dependability are essential.
- Armored Products: Sewn-in armored plating offers enhanced protection for workers operating in high-risk environments.
- Shielded Textiles: Specialized fabrics that block frequencies, radiation, or other environmental hazards can be integrated into a wide range of sewn protective equipment.
Markets using LJ Design & Manufacturing
Crane Operator Vest
Charter Steel is the largest steel coil processor in North America and a global supplier of special bar quality steel products. Their manufacturing process includes the use of belly box transmitters to operate large cranes. These transmitters can weigh up to five pounds and are typically worn with a simple neck strap—an uncomfortable solution that places strain on operators’ necks and shoulders during long shifts.
To address this, Charter Steel had developed a custom vest that better distributed the weight while incorporating high-visibility and fire-resistant materials. However, when their existing manufacturing partner retired, they struggled to find a new supplier with the expertise to take on such a highly customized and technically demanding product.
An Improved Design
Our engineering team reviewed the existing vest design and identified several ways to improve manufacturability, operational efficiency, and user comfort.
