The Challenge
Safe Restraints’ flagship product, The WRAP® Safety Restraint, helps public safety professionals quickly secure a combative individual, allowing them to de-escalate the situation, prioritize breathing, provide care, and reduce the risk of injury for everyone involved. They also offer The Shield®- a protective barrier designed to help officers and healthcare professionals reduce the violence that can occur upon first contact and safely restrain a combative individual.
As demand continued to grow, Safe Restraints began searching for a second manufacturer to help fulfill increasing customer orders. However, finding a second manufacturer proved more difficult than expected.
Several manufacturers attempted to replicate the products, but none could match the quality and durability that law enforcement and corrections staff have grown to depend on. For products used in these critical situations, close enough simply isn’t acceptable.
Safe Restraints needed a true manufacturing partner capable of engineering repeatable processes, maintaining strict quality standards, and scaling production without sacrificing reliability. With no warehousing infrastructure of their own, they also needed a partner who could manage kitting, inventory, and direct-to-customer fulfillment—including service and replacement items. In short, they needed LJ Design & Manufacturing.
Engineering Confidence Into Every Stitch
To serve their goals of: Quality, durability, and QUALITY our engineering team developed a complete manufacturing process to deliver consistency at scale.
Working from physical samples and production references, we recreated digital patterns, established standardized assembly procedures that ensure every Wrap is built the same way every time.
One of the most significant engineering improvements was the development of a programmable reinforced stitch pattern for high-stress areas on The WRAP. Designed specifically for this application, the stitch is engineered so the material itself would fail before the stitching—a level of durability that provides confidence when lives rely on it.
Our team also worked with Safe Restraints to enhance The Shield by incorporating a splash guard that provides additional protection against body fluids and other potentially harmful substances encountered in these situations.
Precision Manufacturing Built for Life-Safety Applications
Producing these products requires far more than just industrial sewing.
With heavy-duty webbing, thick technical materials, and reinforced components, this project demands programmable sewing equipment, carefully selected needles and thread, and a precise order of assembly. This sequence leaves no margin for error—once a reinforced stitch is sewn, it cannot be removed and redone.

Today, LJ Design & Manufacturing produces The WRAP and The Shield with the same quality and consistency Safe Restraints spent decades building their reputation around.
The partnership has increased manufacturing capacity, eliminated production bottlenecks, and given Safe Restraints the confidence to continue growing while maintaining the uncompromising standards their customers require.
